Help regarding info on doctor, and depression

Hello. I am very close to making a appointment to get help for what I think may be depression. My symptoms are basically just being down too much, feeling tired in the morning and a hard time getting up and being motivated, hard time sleeping, bad thoughts.. etc.
Basically I just would like to be run through the process starting with going to the doc. I'm sure I tell him some stuff that has happened lately and how I am feeling and then what? Like how does he test me for depression?
I then assume if he thinks its depression I go talk to somebody... my question here is will this cost me?  I am barely working right now due to my "depression" I suppose as well as my job closed down and not many jobs in my area as of now.... This leads me to one and my last question or concern. Is it possible to get $ if im proven to be depressed and it affects me getting a job?  Trust me, I dont want to feel like this and wish I was myself so I could work 7/12 hr days a week, but im just so down lately and its hard..

thanks

Ok good, you are in Canada so you don't have to have health insurance in order to get help.

You can get prescription medications for free if you and your doctor decide you want to try a antidepressant. Many drugs are paid by the free Canada's health insurance, only the newer ones are not paid like Cymbalta. Drugs like Zoloft, Prozac, Remeron will not cost you.

The therapy would cost you tho. but it is the place to start usually and antidepressants are at maximum efficacy when used with therapy.

First of all it would be good to know where you live because it is not everywhere the same.

At your appointment with the doctor he will ask you questions and from this questionnaire this is usually how depression is diagnosed. He might also refer you to a psychologist or psychiatrist.
