Is it possible?? Have you ever experienced this?

by Jimmy1971, May 18, 2007 12:00AM
Since July, 2006 I have been dealing with a skin condition. This is what happened:

1. The skin colour all over started to get darker with a yellow tinge.
2. The skin then started to get dryer and wrinkles started to appear.
3. My overall skin became really dry and red blood spots under skin started to appear.
4. The hair all over has become thin, dull, and brittle.
5. Now the skin looks dull and my nails are really dry and easy to break.
6. muscle twitching mainly in the legs (the twitching is kinda like electrical currents or buzzes)

I have done every possible test to rule out the cause. Everything turned back normal.

My dermatologist suspects that Elavil (Endep) is responsible for that. I should mention also that there is ongoing twitching in my muscles. it is kinda like electrical shock or buzzes in different part of my body but mainly in my legs.

Please let me know if you ever had such symptoms as a result of taking Elavil.

How old are you and do you have any health conditions? Why are you taking elavil also? Elavil is an old drug that has been around for years. Some of your symptoms cannot be caused by this drug. What dose are you taking daily?
Do you take any steroids? The blood spots sounds like bruizing under the skin and the dry skin and brittle hair and nails are all characteristic signs of long term steroid use. Another medication you take could be a steroid and you may not be aware of it. Depending on your age and sex you may need to be tested for certain diseases. I am not a doctor but if you look up on a search engine info about elavil, you will see that it will not cause your symptoms. A start might be to request a blood test called a "cbc". Its a complete blood count. Your platelets may be low, causing the blood spots under the skin. Your thryoid should be checked as well, the other blood test you should request is a liver enzyme. If your skin has a yellowish tint to it, you could have liver problems.Go back to your doctor and request he check your liver and your platelet count. The leg spasms could be, but a longshot, caused by an overdose of elavil. Any longterm use of medications can cause tremors and spasms, also remember to have your dosage checked for overdose, there is a blood test that checks the level of amytriptolin in your system, request your doc to check it as well. good luck.
