Is there a better medication for me?

I've been taking a mix of anxiety/depression meds for almost 1 yr now. Though I feel better than before I feel worse about myself. I've gained over 20lbs. And I'm on meds that are suppose to be the best to not gain weight on. I take 300mg Wellbutrin xl and 100mg Zoloft XR. I have a terrible fear of being fat. Any opinions on what I can do?

Could you please explain what the method is that cured your depression.  Why do you think it cured it?  How come we have not heard of it before and its wonderful benefits?  It would be wonderful if we could all use this to cure our depression.

I am sure we will all try this if you can explain what it is exactly.  Thank you

Hi , I  think you should try this with your medicine as I m doing it the same ,I had depression since last 4-5 years and since last 6 months I am totally fine.I want to tell everyone  that I cured my depression with anulom vilom pranayam. It is really work but you have to do it every day minimum for 40 minutes ...you can increase the time as per your requirement ...so what are you waiting for ,start it from today for your endless happiness and inner bliss. Best of luck every one ! This is the best solution to cured it permanent .

A lot of anti depressants tend to make people put on weight, but not everyone.  I put on a lot of weight whilst on Effexor.  Doctors tend not to tell you about weight gain with these meds.  You may change, and find the new drug has made no difference, even if your doctor tells you differently.  Matter of finding what suits you, but not a good idea to chop and change with anti depressants.

If the medication you are taking is helping with your depression, that is a good thing.  On the other hand if you are feeling stressed because of weight gain, that is not helping you in the long run.  It has been said many times on here before - choose between feeling less depressed, or putting on weight.

I do not know what to suggest apart from talking to a doctor or therapist.  I think you will just have to limit your food intake and be sensible with your diet, but you know that already if you are someone concerned with weight gain.

I gained weight too. Some of these meds mess with your metabolism. Depends how stable you feel vs trade off. You can increase your activity level.
Have you & your Dr discussed the dosage ?  You may be able to reduce the Wellbutrin.  The Zoloft I wasn't able to tolerate. So I don't know.
Just keep track of your food intake. Some meds make me want larger portions.  I also drink lots of water. Almost 2 gallons per day. That helps me not feel hungry.   Pamela
