L- Tryptophan

by californiab1, Aug 03, 2009 01:40PM
I have a question about L-Tryptophan. Ten days ago I took 2 capsules of L-Tryptophan (1000 mg each = 2000 mg). The next day I had a lot of side effects. The next two nights I continued to take it, but just one capsule (1000 mg each night). But the side effects got worse - so I stopped taking it after this three nights.
Side effects: dizzyness, lightheaded, nauseous, numb feeling in brain, fast heart beat
It's hard to describe how I feel, maybe like : if you have had too much alcohol the night before and the next day you have a bad hangover (but I didn't drink any alcohol of course).
I took the the L-Tryptophan for mood, raising the serotonin level (not as a sleeping aid).
So, after 10 days I still have these side effects (a little better than the first days - but still not good).
Is this normal, that it takes that long to feel normal again. Or should I be concerned?
How long should it take until the dosage is out of my system and that I feel like before taking it?
Thank you in advance!

Hi,

Read up on this at Wikipedia. Seems the substance is probably safer if you eat certain foods which are rich in it than taking a tablet created by someone.

With those side effects I can only ask you why on earth you persist with it? Any med that did this would be dropped immediately.

Look after yourself and change your thoughts on this stuff.

I stopped taking it after the 3 nights. So, I am not taking it anymore and will never again. My problem is, that I still have the side effects after 8 days of NOT taking it.
I wanted to know if it is normal that it takes that long to get out of the body - maybe someone had similar experiences......
