Lack od Concentration and Short Term Memory

Ok I know there are many questions on here evolving this but I seen very similar but also different symptoms along with the symptoms i have and any different answer, i just want to get some kind of idea from someone.

I'm 20 years old, I’m in the military and I work out about 5 days a week.
I have trouble concentrating, and I can’t remember things that could have happened 5minutes ago, or yesterday, but i can remember crazy things from a long time ago. Cant concentrate when reading but if I’m  REALLy interested, I can get into it. I can receive task and remember or forget really easy, or while receiving them, i wonder off for about 5seconds, and realize I wasn’t paying attention, and i feel stupid if i go “can you repeat that? I wasn’t paying attention."
I don’t think I had this problem in high school, or at least not really bad, I don’t think my memory was any bad then, or at least not noticeable, but now, it’s frustrating when I can remember or concentrate on reading three sentences.
My mom and sister had been diagnosed with depression, but they are doing ok with medication, i seen somewhere depression was mentioned, but not sure if that goes along with what i have? Hope this all makes sense, and i not leaving out anything.

Although I am NOT a doctor, have you ever considered you might have a mild case of ADD (attention deficit disorder)?  Your symptoms sound like mine (I'm 54), and throughout my life I've had trouble concentrating, completing tasks, etc.  What got me through school, and excelling was my intellect.  I'm a teacher, so as an adult, I recognized the symptoms.  When I was growing up, no one knew about ADD.  I'm not saying that is what you have, I'm just throwing it out as a possibility.  I have bad short-term memory now, but I'm going through menopause, so I blame it on that, too!  Please seek some help.  You need NOT suffer.  I'm sure a doctor can get to the bottom of this.  Keep us posted, and the best of the luck to you.

Peace and many blessings,

Ellen
