Lexapro,Seroquel,Xanax,and Adderall(adderrall)...ive gained 35 pounds in 3 MONTHS.

Hello, I've got a problem. Obviously im on too much medication, but theres a long story behind that. anyways, I have been on 30mg adderalXR 3 times a day and 50 mg seroquel at night and 2mg xanax(as needed) for the past 9 months.  I have never ever been the type of person whos weight fluctuates.  About 3 months ago I started taking 20mg lexapro at night with the 50mg seroquel.  All I know is i used to be a size 4...ive been a size 4 for the past 8 years probably...NOW, i am a size 10 or 12...and all the weight is in my stomach(with a little in my hips/butt).  Im not pregnant...I exercise...I eat pretty healthy...but im confused as hell. has ANYONE had a similar situation with this drug(s)? any feedback would be GREATLY appreciated because im sick of wearin sweatpants! thanks

Hi, I suggest you speak to your doc.  I gained weight on one of the medications I was put on and I insisted that I be allowed to come off it and try something else, within a month of coming off I had lost 7lbs and 3 months down the line I have lost 14lbs, I'm not quite back to my original weight but I feel a whole lot better.  Mine was also in the tummy area rather than anywhere else, like I was constantly bloated, but my face puffed up to.

Don't be fobbed off with them telling you to eat healthy and exercise - you do that already!  Be firm with them.

Namaste,

Unfortunately, weight gain is a side effect of many psychotropic medications. Like bulldozer said, you should speak with your doctor and try to determine which medication is causing the problem and get it changed. I know that I gained 40 pounds when taking Seroquel. The Lexapro could also be the problem although the Xanax should not be.

So talk with your doctor and get your medication)s) changed. You'll be a lot happier with your body image and self esteem without those extra pounds.

Michael

I have gained an enormous amount of weight on Seroquel.  I started taking it 5 years ago, and have asked for something that isn't weight gaining.  I was put on geodon, but had a terrible reaction (my tongue swelled and I couldn't breathe or speak), zyprexa I gained weight too, so I stuck with the Seroquel and just have to work a little harder to get this weight off.  My doc knows how I am about my weight, before I started Seroquel I had lost 80 lbs. now I have gained that plus.   There just wasn't another option.

Good luck,
Alley
