Lexapro works but cant tollerate the side effects.

Why do doctors tell you "that is not a side effect" when you call them and complain of problems due to a certain med?  Why is it difficult to find a doctor who will listen?  Are we nothing but a meal ticket to these heartless people?  I dont mean to make a blanket statement about doctors as I'm sure there are many compassionate doctors out there it's just I have yet to find one.

I started taking 10mg Lexapro daily exactly 1 month ago and I cant deffinately tell a difference in my anxiety and depression..I just cant handle the side effects.  I have terrible constipation, lower abdominal pain, my chest gets really tight and I experience severe muscle cramps in my neck, shoulder and back.  When I called my doctor he told me these were not common side effects of Lexapro and to continue taking the med.  When I asked him if these will go away he said he could not be sure.  I became very angry with him.

Oh well....guess I will discontinue the Lexapro and try Zoloft.  For about 10 days I felt really good until the side effects became to troublesome.  The worst one is I CAN'T POOP and I dont want to take laxatives as they can cause rebound constipation.  Is it really this difficult?

While prunes may be an old fashioned remedy, they work. They don't taste bad, no chemical additives, there's no side effects and no co-pay.

My best bet for you is to try a newer "laxative" called Miralax, it makes you very regular without the rebound constipation and abdominal cramping like stimulant laxatives. It works wonders and is a common use for women with eating disorders on a refeeding program. Its now over the counter so I'm pretty sure you can get it without a perscription. But if you can't find it ask your general practitioner to prescribe  it for you, and tell them about all the side effects you have been having. I understand that lexapro had a ton of side effects (i have taken it and had to get off it) so maybe switching meds isnt the worst idea. Good luck!
