Long History of Depression in Family

I come from a long line of women who have suffered from depression.  I have been diagnosed in the past with slight depression.  I feel as though it may be coming on again.  Is there any way for me to combat this family history?

i do too. if your depression is mild then i would recommend therapy, exercise and a healthy diet. this even helps some people with severe depression. i hope you feel better soon. remar

I think the others gave you some great advice.

Just don't jump right on the medication band wagon, (some doctors are too fast to prescribe AD meds before truly understanding the level of the patients depression)

There are different severities of this condition, and just like rliz said, some can be controled without medication.

I guess, I'm just saying, take meds if you must in order to fuction, but if you can at least try to get out of the hole without them, then all the better.

It would help to start my consulting with a mental health professional. Many are very good at formulating a "non med" action plan for you. If in the end meds are needed then fine, but at least try without them first.

I have found a way around that. If you PM a person then I think you can list a web link or email address. It just won't do it on the med help open forum section.

The good new for ckammer is that is he just does a simple Google search on the net for prozac, the info is almost infinite.
