i have taken zoloft for 3 yrs and just wanted to up to 100 mgs to help relax me twice as much. i am researching what i can find  on the long term effects too. i want to stay on it forever. its the best one for me. the only thing i have found out is that do not take any nsaids with it, or not that many. like ibprofen or tylenol pm, not sure about aspirin, because the mix causes potential upper gastrointestinal bleeding. minor but thats all i know. i ordered milk thistle to take for a while as a liver aide and as far as i have found it is safe to do so. we are definately going to be great case studies of the long term effects of taking zoloft. and, in the usa they even pay for participence.

I have been on zoloft for four years.  I recently just switched to Citalapram because Zoloft was not addressing all of my issues.  Anyways, I know quite a few people on Zoloft - it seems to be the catchall drug doctors prescribe to people just being diagnosed with depression.  One of my concerns when I first started it was, is it o.k. to be on this for the rest of my life and if so, what are the side effects of long term use.  My doctor stopped me in my tracks and made a very good point of view: all medications have a side effect.  Some less than others.  Of all the depression medications, Zoloft has the least amount and the least intrussive.  Most of them subside after awhile (i.e. headach, stomach ache, etc.)  The most important thing to look at is your quality of life as a whole.  Does the effect that the medication has on your quality of life outweigh the side effects?  If so, keep taking it!  Good luck!
