IT is very good, works very well and i didn't have much trouble giving it up either.

You improve and improve over a couple of months, it works well.

Hi Jesslea, I have been on Effexor XR for 8 years and antidepessants for 25 yrs.  I can tell you with my experience, it is one of the best antidepressants I have taken.  I have had very few side effects and the one I do have is very minor.  Yes, the withdrawal is harsh but the doc can give you other meds to help you come off.  I would never suggest going off cold turkey, only with doc assistance on declining dosage over a period of time or immediately going to another antideprssant.

Years ago I started w/75 mg. and was increased to 150 mg. for several years.  In time my body metablized the drug very quickly (happens with all of them) and now I have been on  over the  maximum dose of 300mg  plus Celexa plus Risperdal and I am having very good success with this cocktail.

For me the benefits outweight the down side.

About effexor, im literally shaking as i type this, mainly because im getting horrible withdrawls tremors(day 8 without effexor) but also out of anger. I am 21 years of age, i was originally put on effexor when i was 19 and since then have been on a rollercoaster of emotions. I have become aggressive, tired, experienced manic highs, weight gain, confusion, lack of good judgement, loss of sex drive, disturbed sleep patterns and many many more. I was never encouraged by my doctors to consider other medication, when i mentioned my sleep patterns to my dr i was bumped up to 150mg from 75mg. When i mentioned the manic highs i was wrongly diagnosed with bi polar disorder. i have felt better mentally since i stopped taking my medication, although the withdral is torture it is still better than the numbness ive experienced for the last 3 years, i havent been myself in 3 years-hopefully i will be again soon.

If Norephinepherine Depletion in the brain is even a partial cause for your depression than Effexor XR can work wonders.

I took Effexor for 4 years (before it lost effectivness for me) and in that time it saved my life. Effexor is probably one of the best antidepressants on the market. It often works when SSRI drugs like Zoloft and Prozac fail.

Some people have a bad reaction to SNRI's like Effexor, but for many it works wonders.
You will hear stories about..."OMG, I had such bad withdrawl when I stopped Effexor."

I agree with that, but SSRI's like Lexapro, Zoloft, Paxil, in fact all of them produce withdrawl even with a slow taper. I can't think of one antidepressant that I switched that I had no withdrawls from.

Effexor has been around for 8 years. It is time tested and safe. It also happens to be the worlds #1 selling antidepressant of all time. You know why? Because it works. Not for everyone, because not everyone can tolerate it, but it works plain and simple.

It may not work forever, but it can work for a damn good long time at the right dosage.

Effexor works well for many people. are you on it for depression or other reasons as well?
The med takes awhile to get into your system, so don't expect anything over night. If you find it's not the right drug by chance, do not stop it immediately, this drug you have to wean off gradually.

It's also really appreciated not posting questions in Caps, it's considered shouting in the cyber world.
