Medications for Anxiety, Depression and Chronic Skin Picking

by tracey123, Jun 22, 2009 12:59PM
I have been dealing with Chronic Skin Picking which is classified as a OCD issue. I have been on a lot of anti deppressants in the past and they all gave me really bad headaches. I was on celexa for 6 months and the whole six months I had these headaches. I wanted to know if anyone is taking a anti depressant that is well tolerated with not to many side effects that would help with these issues.

Hi, I've been on many but never had this problem.  Have you discussed this with your psychiatrist?  He is the most knowledgeable when it comes to these types of meds, and would know which ones have this side effect, and which ones don't.  They affect everyone differently.

Hi, when you say chronic skin picking do you mean of scabs? I have picked scabs since I was little and I am covered in scars, mainly on my arms and legs, I just cant help myself. If this is what you do have you been given any kind of help to stop you doing this to yourself. I suffer with server depression and anxiety but the picking began before my mental illness.

I mean if I have a pimple I just keep picking end it ends up a big sore on my face. It is definetely anxiety. My doctor is trying me on prozac. A very low dose to start because I am super sensitive to medications. I will see how this helps. I am also always looking in the mirror at all the flaws it drives me crazy.

In my own experience, prozac only gave me mild headaches for the first couple of weeks of taking it. I'm now on lexapro (which is supposed to be one of the "cleanest" SSRIs), and I don't have headache issues - just stomach issues.

I know I have to watch things with my stomach also it is very sensitive. I was on Lexapro a long time ago and decided to try prozac first to see how it worked.
