Mother and Brother schizophrenia

Mother and Brother schizophrenia

Hi,
My mother was schizo patient and at present leading almost near normal life under medication.
My brother is suffering from Schizophrenia and OCD. I joined him in nursing home and he is under treatment.
The problem is my mother and brother are living in my home town. No other person is available to take care them. So I have decided to bring both of them to my home.

As I am having two kids aged 7 and 3, I doubt is it safe to our family if I bring my mother and brother to my home.

Kindly suggest me in this regard

If your brother and mother are not violent people I do not see any reason why that they should not be brought into your home. Since your mother is doing really well you may be able to get her into an apartment and have your brother live with her if they both agreee. Some cities have housing areas where people who have problems are checked on daily to make sure that their needs are met. If you are interested speak with their doctor about this. Alot of times people who have schizophrenia are self reliant well adjusted people who would do alot better if they were able to try to make it on thier own of course with anybody they need emotiona support.. There is medicaid and medicare available to help financially, I think in every state(not sure). If your brother is not doing well on the current meds there is a medication called Clozaril that is better than any of the meds out there, however, it is not well tolerated by some people so it is usually a last resort after 2 other meds have been tried. With clozaril the blood has to be well monitored weekly, then biweekly then monthly. Also Check out www.orthomolecular.org it offers good insight about schizophrenia and alternative treatments. Hope things go well.
