I think it's really important to have supportive members of the family to help you get through any form of depression. Makes it just that little bit easier, lol.
I found some info on the 'Time to Talk' programme on the nhs website for you to look at:
""The TIME TO TALK service provides talking therapies (psychological therapies – Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT, counselling, and guided self-help) to help patients understand and change their thoughts and feelings to get well and stay well.
The service is provided by West Sussex Health (Community services) in GP surgeries.
Who is TIME TO TALK for?
TIME TO TALK is for patients who are experiencing stress, worry or low mood which is affecting the way they live their lives, their relationships or their ability to work.
Patients may have a diagnosis of depression or anxiety, or may be struggling to adjust to significant changes, such as bereavement, relationship difficulties, or chronic health conditions.
What do these services do?
Every patient will talk with a member of staff who is trained to provide psychological therapies.
Patients will be offered one of a range of services with regular reviews to ensure they are progressing as expected:
Guided self-help – these services are based on the principles of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and offer targeted, practical help. This will include activities and tasks that are reviewed and progressed as the patient starts to feel better.
Workshops and courses such as 'Overcoming depression', 'Overcoming anxiety', 'Living well', and 'Know stress' help patients learn how to cope with low mood, stress or worry and keep themselves well in the future.
Counselling offers patients an opportunity to reflect and understand past events, recognising links with their current situation and making changes to help them become well and stay well.
Cognitive Behavioural Therapy identifies and challenges negative patterns of thinking and behaving associated with depression or anxiety in order to build a different set of responses and change the way the patient feels and behaves.
Where are patients seen?
Patients are contacted initially by telephone to gather information and then offered the service that will best meet their needs.
Workshops and courses are held in community venues across West Sussex, such as libraries, leisure centres and church halls. Appointments are offered in GP surgeries, local hospitals and community rooms.
How can I access TIME TO TALK?
Please make an appointment with your GP to discuss how you are feeling and how this is affecting the way you live your life. Together with your GP you can discuss a referral to TIME TO TALK and you will be contacted by the service to arrange an appointment.""
We went to Longleat Centre Parcs, it was great fun!! Had never been before, so it was a whole new experience. We'd love to go again next year! I have got some photos, I'll have to put some up soon, haven't got any on here yet, lol.
I have told a girl on this forum called Mandylove about you, and suggested you contact you. She is worried about taking anti-depressants if she ever gets pregnant.
Hope that is OKI.
My son has recently married a girl with depression. They have 2 children and she got PND with the first (now 5yrs) and takes anti-depressants. She talks to me about it as I have depression too. My son is very supportive like your partner.
I am so glad you too have a supportive partner. That really helps a lot. You would be surprised how many people who write here say their relatives are not at all supportive. So sad. Many people who have not experienced depression do not realise what a difficult illness it is.
Such a shame you cannot ease your depression with medication, but you are wise not wanting to harm your unb orn child. I do hope the rest of your pregnancy goes well for you.
My little grandaughter is the same age as your daughter. If you look on my profile you will see photos of my son's wedding in Turkey, and my relatives. The large lady with red jacket is me!!
The "Time To Talk" programme sounds really interesting. I do hope you benefit from it. You must tell me all about it.
Where did you go on holiday this year? Can you put some photos on?
Take care, and big hug
Hello Maddie,
I think that there are other types of anti depressants if you are really struggling, but I've been told that there are cons about taking them that could potentially harm baby.
I weaned myself off them over 3 weeks, by instruction of my doctor, so it was not like I came straight off them, but I do sometimes feel the effects of not taking them. I don't cope bad, my OH tells me I'm doing really well (and he's real supportive), considering I started them when our daughter was 8 months and she's 2yrs 8months now, lol.
There is a definite chance that my pnd will come back again, but I really want to be able to cope without having to pop pills if I can. I'm going to enrol in the 'Time to Talk' programme via my doctors so that hopefully by the time new bubba gets here, I'll have a counsellor who I can talk to when things are getting rough.
We are having terrible weather aren't we!! I am beginning to think that we are never going to get a summer, lol. I'm glad we went on our holidays earlier on in the year, atleast it was nicer then, lol.
Hello, I have just replied to another lady on here who is pregnant. I did not know you could not take anti-depressants whilst pregnant. How are you going to manage without? Wont that make the chance of post natal depression worse?
I am so sorry you and your fiance are going through such a hard gtime at the moment.
You will certainly find understanding npeople here. We are all very supportive, and try to give guidance where we can, as we have all experienced depression.. I myself have had it for a long time.
I live on the south coast of the UK too. What awful weather we are having. Not stopped raining today (Monday).
