Panic attacks and paranoid thoughts

Hi There,
Im researching an answer for my brother in- law he is a recovering Heroin addict of 10 years I know that he s on medications you help him sleep diazipan and methadone at 70 mls a dose not sure on how many times a day he has that though.
He has stuck to his methadone program on this attempt and has been clean for few months, but he is now getting Paranoia and severe panic attacks where he cannot leave the house, he has to turn off all his phones and is unable to speak to anyone.
The last attack made him unable to leave the house for the whole weekend.
Im worried that he may relapse and I would like to know if this reaction is caused by the long term abuse of drugs, has he chemically unbalanced himself and needs more medication?
Please advise on steps to take to convince him that things are not right!

You should encourage him that he doesn't have to feel like this. He doesn't have to suffer like this.
Who knows what is causing it? maybe the drugs, I don't know. Or maybe he was always vulnerable and that is why he turned to drugs. The thing is he can get treatment and there is no need to suffer on
