Persistant Sexual Side Effects

I suffer from genital numbness and its been two years since I quit Effexor XR. I'm really stressed about this and many doctors do not believe that sexaul side effects can remain after stopping the medication. I know there are thousands of people who take antidepressants, but many people take Propecia and some people claim to have sexual side effects after they stop. There a scientific journals that have recorded patients with various persistant sexual side effects that do not go away after they quit as well. Are doctors not aware of these rare occurances??? Psychiatrists are suppose to be specailists (know the facts) of psycho pharmacology, otherwise primary physicians can easily prescribe these meds...  To simply tell me that this is all psychological is hard to believe. Please let me know your thoughts.

I feel for you.  Have you tried other medications to help it, such as Wellbutrin.  The reason why, is when I quit wellbutrin, my depression came back and my desire for sex went down. I went back on my well butring 4-7 days into it  I was, just let me say a Happy Camper.  Anyway, I know you said it is from numbness, so the medicine was just a suggestion, but it sounds like you may need to see a specialists, such as a gynecologists, no shame in it! at all, and also take a form of nerve pill. If I were an expert I would say God would be the ultimate one to help you, but I cannot endorse that in my life right now. take care

well I don't know if you want to give this a try...

but there is a herb called Damiana, it is used for exhaustion, mental fatigue, lack of energy, and low sex drive - i'm not sure if it will help with the genitle numbness. Damania increses sex drive immediately, for aphrodisiac purposes you take two doses 30 minutes before sex. Dried Damiana you can boil and drink in the form of tea - one teaspoon in one cup of boiled water or you can try saw palmetto it has the same affect. If you try a health food store, GMC, or a vitamin shop you can probably find these herbs. Ask your doctor if this can help you. I hope things work out for you, my problem is quite different. I suffer from pretty bad abdominal pain, a nurse told me she thinks i have endometriosis - this often makes sex quite painful - but, thats why i was prescribed tramadol 50mg. I hope things get better for you - let me know how things go for you = )
