Please help! Whats the best antidepressant between prozac, citalopram and paroxetine ?

Setraline fantastic apart from causing irregular pulse.
Running out of options, tried most ssri's with adverse effects.
Weight gain and pulse problems, which out of the three I've noted are best with both issues please?

I have been on both citalopram and prozac but citalopram was longterm weight gain, dry mouth and headaches and prozac major short term weight gain. Came of prozac for that reason after only a few months and wonder if it would've settled with time, or go back to the one i was on for 12 years but had some side effects including weight gain.

Doc says my last option is mirtazapine but it is also an appetite stimulator.

Im not sure whether to go back to one of the few that were relatively problem free or ask to try paroxetine.

Please advise.

Thanks.

It is difficult to find an antidepressant that will not cause weight gain. Zoloft is not supposed to cause weight gain.

Personally I think paroxetine will cause weight gain.

You can talk to your doctor about two new antidepressant one is Cymbalta the other is Pristiq.

Hi, I have most anti-depressants cause weight gain unfortunately.  I have had to choose between depression and weight gain.  Difficult to advise you, but you don't want to suffer depression do you?

I stopped Effexor because of weight gain, but after 12 months the depression came back so badly, I had to go on it again.  Slowly gaining weight.  Doctors always tell you what you want to hear.  Difficult for you.

Let us know how you get on.

I never worded it very well, I meant most antidepressants caused weight gain and or pulse problems. Zoloft/setraline hasn't caused weight gain and had lessened my appetite which would be fantastic if it wasn't affecting my heart.
Its so soul destroying

Thanks x

You can talk to you doctor about using Zoloft with a cardioselective beta-blocker like metoprolol.

I was on Sertraline for quite a while, and know that it can cause heart problems, and you have to be regularly checked.  It did not cause me any problems in that way.  I was then put on Effexor because I was told it had less side effects.  It does however cause weight gain.

It is difficult for you to know what to do.  You can try the paroxetine and see how you go.  I don't have any other suggestions.  When I was on the old tri-cyclic anti-depressants they did not cause weight gain, but doctors seldom prescribe these now.

Let me know what you decide.

Hi again, I have just looked up paroxetine, and see it is known as Seroxat.  I took this for a while, with no weight gain, but had a very bad side effect and was taken off it at once.  It may agree with you.

Thanks very much for your advice and experiences. i think i will just ask the doc if i can try fluoxetine/prozac again, hopefully with a diet pill to counteract the weight problems it causes me.

My dad has atrial fibrilation and thinks id be mad to stay on a pill causing me pulse problems.

Thanks Yvonne xxxx

If prozac agreed with you, try it again.  Personally it was the worse anti-depressant for me.  As I said, we all react differently to anti-depressants.  I am trying hard not to eat too much.  I find I crave carbohydrates when on anti-depressants.

Good luck.  Let me know how you get on.
