Post Menopausal Depression and Bleeding.

Dear fellow forum users, I wonder whether anyone can offer any advice on the condition that is causing my 66 year old mother terrible problems at present. My mother is a confident, jovial woman. She has never previously suffered from any form of mental ill heath. Roughly 15 years ago when she was 51 yrs old she began having very heavy bleeding during menstruation. This coincided with the sudden onset of feelings of insecuring and anxiety. I recall my father having to drop her to her parents' house when he went to work because she couldn't face being alone. To be honest I'm a bit vague on how long it lasted and how it eventually subsided. However it did and she has enjoyed several years of good health. I should add that she has been taking peroxatine on a daily basis since then. Her periods did stop for a period of over 12 months but then they started up again on a monthly cycle. Roughly ten days ago the problems began again. It came on almost overnight. She feels totally lost but does not know why. She has no problems in life, financial, emotional etc. She cannot rationalise her anxiety but continues to feel it. I am having to spend every evening with her as she cannot face being alone. The doctor has made an urgent gynaecological referral and an urgent mental health referral. In the meantime he has given her diazepam. She is continuing to take peroxatine on a daily basis. Can anyone suggest what we might do next, or what the problem may be. Thank you. Paul, Birmingham England.

Furthermore to illustrate the severity of the problem she is struggling to watch her favourite television programmes or do crosswords which she loves. Her normally healthy appetite has also deserted her.
