Remeron Withdrawal

by Jeanne347, May 08, 2008 12:08PM
I have just recently gone off amitriptyline taking about 24 days. It was causing severe leg cramps also does remeron cause leg cramping like spasms? I get these when I take it and don't have them if I skip a dose. I am weaning off the remeron because of the leg cramps and I no longer need it. I have been on both about 10  years. My withdrawal symptoms are diarrhea, jerking of my body, burning of my arms and legs and pain and cramps in my legs and pain in my arms. flu-like feeling and weakness. I have been off the amitriptyline 8  days and have been cutting the remeron to 15mg for 8 days. How should I do it from here? Does the burning and pain in my extremities sound like withdrawal from the remeron or the amitriptyline or both? The leg cramps are so bad I don't sleep all night.

I would contact my Dr. and ask for his/her opinion on this. I'd also call a pharmacist and ask,  too. There may be something that you can take to help alleviate some of these symptoms as you withdraw and taper down.

When I've weaned off Remeron in the past, I did not experience anything like this. I tapered down from 30 mg./taken nightly.

Good luck...I hope that you can take something to help with the leg cramps...they're quite painful, as I've had them before...

Mmm! I've been dealing with leg cramps, but that's based on my sleeping pattern. I've been taking Remeron 30 mg during the darker season because of SAD and higher anxiety levels. That means I've quit cold turkey pretty many times already. We're all different, sigh.
How does the leg cramps relate to lack of sleep for you? What comes first: Cramps or sleep issues?

For me it takes about 30 hours awake before I cramp out on it with system failure. It's horrible. Probably has something to do with muscle fibers twitching because I notice it after 24 hours.

I'd check, like Xan says, with someone who knows the withdrawals.
