Should I sue my Dr. for malpractice

I have had mental issues my whole life.  My Dr. started prescribing me atidepressants & Ativan about 13 yrs ago.  Over the yrs. I've been on & off many atidepressants, went to several Phyciatrists & the dose of the Ativan ended up @ 1mg 3 x day.  The outcome has been I had 3 suicide attempts & ended up in a mental inpatient for a wk.  At this point I'm off the Ativan (thank God) and on an antidepressent.  I've beed diagnosed w/ depression, anxiety & bpd.  I just came out of a mania & have never been dx w/ bipolar & about ready to quit my job again.  Please give me some helpful advise.  Thanks.

I too am sorry that you are going through all of this. I think you would be best off posting in the bi-polar community or the anxiety community. I think you will get a lot more responses there.

As far as suing your doctor you would be hard pressed to do so. He did not force you to take the medication so you don't have a case. As sorry as that is it is the truth.

I wish you the best and hope you get on the right track.

i was misdiagnosed at 11 with bipolar & mild anxiety and was on all kinds of different meds when i was 22 they finally figured out that im not bipolar because i dont have the mania. I was diagnosed with severe depression with psychotic features, and borderline personality disorder and they put me on all kinds of other meds for that. I stopped taking them because i hated feeling like a guinea pig (this worked, that didnt, this made me feel like a zombie, that made me unable to feel anything and so on). i found ways to cope and deal with it myself, after so long of dealing with it you can figure out what works for you

Hi. Im sorry you are sturggling with finding the right combination of meds for you.  I understand what you are going through as one of my sons has bpd too.  He couldn't stand the ativan.   Sounds to me like you may need to find another dr or keep working on what meds will work for you.  Sometimes it is hit and miss.   As far as suing your dr goes, we can't advise on that since this forum is about abusing substances and helping those that want off them.   Good luck to you.  I feel for you.
