Side Effects of Raised Dose

by ahayes, Jul 23, 2007 03:42AM
I have been taking antidepressants for a few months.  Trazodone 100mg specifically.  My doctor upped my dose to 150mg and if I take that I can feel my own heartbeat before I go to sleep, and then when I wake up I can't feel my heartbeat at all even with my hand on my chest and I feel a little shaky.  I've told my doctor about this but I haven't gotten a response.  I'm 200 miles away and don't currently have health care access so all I can do is email him.

Trazodone is a psychoactive drug of the piperazine and triazolopyridine chemical classes that has anti depressant anxiolytic, and hypnotic properties. Tachycardia ( increased heartbeat ) is one of the common side effect and since you increased the dose that means the side effect will kick in and it shoud be fine once your body is used to the new dose. I would report any severe tachycardia to your doctor tho.

Here's a list of the cardiovascular side effect of this drug:

Hypotension, tachycardia, palpitations, shortness of breath, apnea, syncope, arrhythmias, prolonged P-R interval, atrial fibrillation, bradycardia, ventricular ectopic activity (including ventricular tachycardia), myocardial infarction, and cardiac arrest.

Maybe you could be hypersensitivity to trazodone. I would suggest talking to your doctor about maybe trying another kind of anti-depressant like a SSRI or SNRI. It depends for what you are being treated but i don't recommend trazodone to anyone but i'm not a doctor and you should see with him. This is just a suggestion i am giving you

Best regards,
M4
