St.John Worts and Synthroid

I am currently taking Synthryoid. I was diagnosed with hypothryoidism. But in the last few months could be even years I am not sure I have noticed a tremendous change in my whole body. Weight gain and not able to lose it..Dark circles under my eyes, mood swings and just all around unhappiness. I thought that after losing my mother I was in depression.. then I thought menopause with the hot flashes. I was absolutely confused as to why I was feeling this way. It hit me all at once. Lets not even talk about fatique I couldn't get out of my own way, and the weight gain. I was a 7/8 and shot up to 12. My diet was moderate since I do not eat junk foods. When I was put on synthryoid a month ago my doctor wanted to put me on prozac. First of all I am NOT a big fan of medicine and I even looked into natural ways to increase my thryoids production. I read that Kelp and spiritulina helps promote a healthy thyroid and with that I chose to try st.johns wort for this depression I am feeling. I heard some things about st. johns worts lately and I wanted to know if this was safe enough to take with synthroid, and if Kelp and spiritulina actually helps boost up the thryoid..

If you are hypothyroid only taking the meds will help. Depression is a symptom of low thyroid and you might have an improved mood on the thyroid meds. I have no thyroid due to thyroid cancer and take synthroid. I also take St Johns wort and have done so for a couple of years. Its been Okay for me to combine them.
