Taking both 30mg Seroxat and 50mg Amitriptyline

I was previously on 30mg Citalopram and 50mg Amitriptyline but doctor has swapped the Citalopram for Seroxat - is it okay to both Seroxat and Amitriptyline together?

Any advice would be appreciated

Seroxat (better known as Paxil) is a potent SSRI, means it will block the reuptake of seroronin while amiltriptyline is a SNRI but will be much more efficient at blocking the reuptake of norepinephrine. I think your doc is trying to be more aggressive on your serotonin by using Seroxat, it's ok to take both together since one is stronger at inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin while the other is strong on norepineprhine.

Mixing two seroternergic antidepressant always have it's risk on serotonin syndrome but this is a very rare medical condition and will rarely cause trouble. If you experience unexplainable fever and agitation you should report to the ER immediately.
