Thinking about coming off Celexa.

by TINA419, Oct 05, 2009 11:34AM
I have been taking Celexa for 2 years now. I have noticed that I clinch my teeth at night, and keep thinking the same thoughts over and over again, when I am trying to go to sleep. I have had crazy dreams since I first started taking Celexa, but figured that the calming effects outweighed the dreams,so I continued to take it. In the beginning, I had a dimished sex drive, but now I don't want it at all. After reading the other people's expreciences while discontinuing Celexa, I am worried that I will be a basket case when I try. Please advise the best way to discontinue this drug. I take 20 milagrams once a day. Oh, I started taking this drug to help with menopause.

Your Dr should be able to put you on a tapering schedule.
Since you started taking this med for menopause you may not need it now after two years.
I understand that it takes some women many years to get through menopause so if your still having problems after quitting Celexa  you might want to see you OB/GYN and ask about hormone replacement therapy. Take care. Remar

I had zero withdrawal effects when I went off it, so you are not guaranteed a rough ride. I can see why you are worried when I read other people's comments though.
The teeth clinching probably does not have anything to do with Celexa, as many people have a clenching problem and wear a night splint. See your dentist to make sure you are not grinding away your teeth, as happened to my niece.
I also question whether it causes crazy dreams, but you can ask your doc about that.

Definitely it does not make you think the same thoughts over and over. It does not control your thoughts, and if it works well will just help you deal with bad emotions.
