Thinking but not acting

Thinking but not acting

Background: 41 year old female, separated from spouse four years ago after 16 years of marriage, professional, seemingly well adjusted, experienced periods of self-harm (cutting) as a teen but nothing like that in over 20 years.

My thoughts commonly drift toward suicide, not with the ideas of actually planning a time or place or method, but just in the context of how lovely it would be to be without this life.

Is professional help necessary to deal with these thoughts, even though I am certain I would never attempt suicide.

Thank you in advance for your advice and opinions.

Hi.  I think your thoughts warrant getting some professional help.  It may just take some therapy to determine "why" you are having these thoughts, but you need to know as you are concerned.  Going through all that you are may be causing you some depression and you want to nip this in the bud early so things don't get worse.  Hope this helps and take care.
