Tingling & numbness in legs & arms on Depakote during the night.

I am on my fifth day of Depakote (Divalproex Sodium) for manic depression. Last nite I was awakened to an awful  feeling of numbness and twitching in my arms and legs. If I didn't wake myself up & get up & walk around shaking my arms & legs I would have felt like I was going crazy. The only thing that stopped it was a1/4 oxycodone. I settled in after that. But I was up until 9:00 am from 2:00 am. Not good for the next day, esp if I had something to do. How long will these bouts last & will they go away after I'm on a higher dosage?

Yes it seems to listed as an uncommon side effect for Depakote so it would be worthwhile to discuss it with your psychiatrist to see how long it will last and what to do about it. Many side effects are more intense at first and then will settle in time but it would be essential to discuss the specifics with your psychiatrist. I do know I had some side effects with Depakote, some amount of muscle fatigue among them, that improved with time but they were stronger with higher dosages but the reason they are raising it is to find the proper blood level. They could also check for medication interactions as well.
