Trying Sam e but sleep problems

Trying Sam e for clinical depression, I've realized I  now need to reduce the Sam e dose to 50 mg. and  then I will monitor it and see if it's still preventing me from falling asleep. It is helping elevate my mood but the anxiety side effect is messing up my night and next day.. (I'm so sleepy the next day from the tiny bit of sleeping pill taken)  My question is, 'if'  the 50 mg. dose still prevents me from sleeping at night, what do you recommend next? I am trying the natural options first, and only moving back to RX's if I have to.  Thanks very much for your assistance.

what time of day are you taking the SAMe?  If it's stimulating you, then be sure to take it in the morning.  Don't take any B vitamins after 4pm.  A good natural sleep supplement my husband is taking right now for anxiety/panic disorder as he gets secondary insomnia is OrthoSleep by AOR.  It's a combination of GABA, L-theanine, 5HTP, Melatonin, Valerian root, and Passion flower.  It has no residual effects the next morning and he sleeps through the night.  It has helped immensely.

Good Luck!

Yes ! Sam-e can be causing insomnia, esp if your under methylated, or have high histimine levels. Best is to get a particular metabolic panel done thru a very reputable testing lab who deals with methylation/Pyroluria and zinc/copper serums, and then someone like Walsh or Mensah Medical can give you a consultation on your results, plus your medical history etc, and then a personally tailored supplement plan will be made, and then follow ups. All can be done by telephone once you've had the right tests done, which too is easy and there are over 1000 Labcorps across US to do the very specific blood draws needed. Also included is home murine test which must be followed exactly as it needs to be frozen and fedex overnight, but the testing lab walks you thrunit all; most insurances cover the test as well.  There are too many factors going on and what works for one rarely works for another. I had all the symptoms of over methylation, and thus was supplementing myself but only getting worse, severe anxiety and deep dark depression, hide-n-die in the closet. Until I was tested, and then consulted with a professional functional practitioner, I was actually Pyrolurics and severely UNDERmethylated. Once I stopped the supps that aggravated undermethl issues and addressed Both Pyroluria And undermeth, and detoxed some excess copper, I began to live life again, my adrenals began to heal and my hormones started producing again. Sam-e was needed but only in low dose in the am Only, with calming magnesium. If I took divided dose at night, I would not sleep; this is a common vicious cycle with certain undermethylators just starting out on the correct methyl groups and b6/zinc etc supps. And for most, you will get Worse before getting better due to detoxing, and getting your meth cycle spinning again, and all the cascading body systems like adrenals, thyroid, sex hormones Etc, to also begin functioning properly. Get the pro help and the right tests done and avoid possibly years of hellacious rollercoastering. Listen to NO ONE, including me....listen to your body and a professional like Walsh, Mensah, anyone who truly understands methylation and even Pyroluria. Google these key words. Pyroluria testing ******* and Mensah medical gave me life back after ten yrs horrible reclusive solitude. Best part....the vitamins can all be ordered at vita cost or swanson or heck, your local drug store, but more expensive there. All mine are about $50 a month! Best of luck to you! Hugs:-)

Any antidepressant can cause one to become hyper, including natural ones such as SAMe.  Many antidepressants work as stimulants.  Many of the medications can push a person into a manic state.  Just the way it is.  If this doesn't agree with you, don't take it.  But it's unlikely any one supplement would be the solution anyway -- natural remedies are used in combination, not singly.  You might want to do this with a naturopath.  A good book to get you started is Natural Highs by Hyla Cass, a psychiatrist at UCLA.  Just to toss this out, though, if SAMe gives you bad side effects, the next ones to try if it's pure depression is St. John's Wort and 5-HTP.  If it's mixed anxiety and depression then you need a mix of antidepressants and relaxants.  Another supplement used for depression is DLPA, but again, it's stimulating, so it also could make you nervous.  And as I said, medication can really throw a person awry.  It's all trial and error, because each of us is an individual, and the studies are all generalizations.

I am sorry but i think all these symptoms have nothing to do with sam e.

It couldnt possibly be causing these symptoms otherwise it would be banned.  I dont think the alternatives really work for this kind of illness, though there are a hell of a lot of companies making money out of them, even if they do help it is mild and long term, and only some people

sorry but i want to be honest with you.
