Wellbutrin withdrawal????

by AnaRita, Sep 20, 2009 03:42PM
I am an eighteen-year-old girl, who was diagnosed with depression and started taking wellbutrin about 2-3 years ago. When I started taking it, I was very suicidal and depressed. Eventually, the drugs kicked in and i was fine, the best ive been in my life. I was like that for a few months, before I began to feel very weird. This might be due to the fact that I didn't take the wellbutrin very regularly. Ive felt like this for a year now-sort of disconnected with the world and even with my own emotions, like I am asleep all the time and everything that happens is kind of unreal. Like this is all a dream. There's this inability to think about things, almost like i cant "see". Last september (08) when I started feeling like this, i took the wellbutrin regularly for a few months before i gave up. Now i havent taken it since last December. The symptoms have persisted, and even gotten worse and I'm trying to decide if it is due to going off and being irregular with the wellbutrin. Ive been to see a GP and a few therapists, trying to figure out what the problem is, but no one really listens to me/knows whats going on. Please help, this really *****.

HI
first off, I have dealt with this exact situation just recently..in fact I stopped taking my Effexor regularly bc I started to feel like I didnt need them anymore, a few months down the road started taking them again and I started feeling really weird also, like this was not my life that Im living, this is some movie, this cant be real! I felt kinda numb and confused, didnt know what the heck was going on! as a result i went to my doctor and told me that it was anxiety and depression return just less severe...stopping meds and starting them again will mess up how the drug works for you, and it wont work the same way again unless you increase the dose, change medication then return to the Wellbutrin a few years after, dont worry its simply a sensation you are feeling, more anxiety and ofcourse the disconnection is the depression...go to ur doc and tell him whats going on, I increased my dose and im feeling more in touch with whats going on again:)

Firstly, yes, going on and off will do that to you! I have done just that with Wellbutrin (bupropion) and stupidly I didn't even get why I fell down into that black hole again and again... I am quite down still, this is my third time starting Wellbutrin, but I do feel better and will NOT stop again until I thoroughly go over everything with my doctor(s).  Secondly, and this is for Claudicakes, where have you read/ heard about developing immunity to Wellbutrin? I have never heard of that and I have researched this med and its active ingredient thoroughly. I'd appreciate a source, because 'm curious! Thanks.
