What do you suggest

by Sdragonfly, Nov 20, 2008 09:49AM
I had started 25 mg of luvox an antideppresant 8 days ago
I have been nauseated and headache with it..but last night I had
woke up in total paranoia...horrible..My husband got up with me,,,,
I feel faint feeling now....

I had tryed paxil and cymbalta in the past years...
but do not want to go back on those..
Cymbalta made my ocd worse and also made me grit my teeth and heart racing..
Paxil made me gain weight and withdrawal of going off it was so intense I had to get on another
antideppresant to get over the withdrawal after 2 months....

Would prozac 10 mg be best for me to ask the doctor today for a pres by phone?
I am sensitive to all medications so I have to go with the lowest dose of any med..
I have anxiety and depression...
Please answer soon...sheri

You can always ask one of the doctors on Medhelp's Doctor forum.  It's my understanding that Luvox is prescribed for people who have Obsessive Compulsive Disorder.  Is that you?  Call your doctor.  Tell him/her how you've been feeling.  Doctors are there to help.  It's important to give the doctor feedback as to how you're feeling, so that changes can be made.  I would call your doctor ASAP.  There is no reason for you to suffer.  Keep in touch, and let me know how you're doing.  Good luck, and hang in there.

Peace, good health, and many, many blessings,

thank you..I do have some OCD but the internist just dispenses
and really does not get into that with me..
I am thinking of calling to ask about 10 of prozac..

I am sensitive to any meds....so that is all I know to do.
He will basically give me what I ask for...

I thought of lexapro but not sure of its side effects and the cost is high too...
I would like a  calming antideppresant..that makes the world for me a little happier.
Any thoughts?

Perhaps you need to see a psychiatrist, who is trained in psychiatric medications.  An internist is sometimes o..k., but you may want to see a specialist, like a psychiatrist.  This is just a suggestion.  Good luck.

Hi Sdragonfly,

just curious, why prosac?  it is a very old med.  why not try one of the newer ones?

Since you are at the investigative stage, try talking to a pharmacist when they aren't busy.

Luvox is simply fluvoxamine maleate, which is an SSRI class of antidepressant. Luvox can be effective for major Depressive dissorder, but is probably not the most popular amongst most Psychiatrist.

Not sure exactly why it is not prescribed more, but Psychiatrist must have their resons for this fact.

You say that you are very medication sensitive, so perhaps Luvox is not a good medication for you. We all react different to different Psychotropic medications.

Most of them are hit and miss at best. You may want to ask your doctor about trying a different antidepressant if Luvox is not working well for you.

I have found Lexapro to be a very effective and Tolerabe SSRI. Perhaps it would be tolerabe for you at a low dosage. I used to take 30Mgs a day. That is a high dosage, but some people find effectivness with Lexapro at only 10Mgs a day.

Just a tip that might work. Just keep in mind that the first 2 weeks on any new antidepressant drug is always the worst. They take much time to work properly and for the system to properly adjust.
