Which is better a psychologist or psychiatrist?

by Korat, May 24, 2007 12:00AM
Which type Doctor is better to see for traumatic issues and help with pain management and other illness? I have insurance and so many psychologist do not take it, so it's like I have nothing. I'm so uncertain as to what to do.......What good is insurance when a doctor won't take it? I've been dx with: Asthma, Allergies, Osteoarthritis, DDD, Mild to Moderate Spinal Stenosis (S1 thru L3), Gerd (2 Bleeding Ulcers in 1996) and now an enlarged pituitary gland.  I could use some help because I'm getting depressed. So who should I see to get some advise? Any help would be greatly appreciated.  I've seen seven to eight different medical doctors in the last year alone.

They work together, but have 2 different approaches. The physciatrist will focus more on chemicals and whats going on in/with your mind and body, issues etc...where the phychologist will focus more on the social parts  of your problems. I don't have the right words, but thats in a nut shell.
