Withdrawal from Paxil

by always3, Jun 03, 2007 12:00AM
Has anyone had problems withdrawing from Paxil? I've been on it (30 mg/day) for 3 years and want to come off. Please help if you can.

YES.....years ago.  Don't let the docs tell you that you wont or can't withdrawl from them. It is in the handouts you get with them also that you do not ABRUPTLY stop taking them without your docs permission. The docs are supposed to know some things, they don't, and don't beleive. Well, few do. Make sure you are weaned off.  Some of it is physcological, but htere is physical also. I been there.  A mild anti-anxity as ativan will help also.

To: Paxil withdrawal
Hey! I went off paxil a couple of years ago myself due to not being able to afford the medicine.. you should NOT do it cold turkey.. I remember the nightmares that I used to have and the horrible depression it sent me into.. After about 5 days though I started to feel somewhat normal though.. But the depression was still there.. However my dreams weren't so terrifying.. make sure you taper yourself off and find yourself a doctor that will help you do this!

Good luck!

Hi- I stopped taking Paxil (20 mg a day) abruply and had about a week of being suddenly soaked with sweat and these bizarre electric-like zinging feelings in my head. Not too fun. Then, never being one to learn a lesson easily, I did it again with Prozac. That time didn't bother me too much, but I was on another, heavier med in the opiate family that probably canceled the Prozac withdrawals out.
Do it the right way- cut down per advice from your doc. Why take chances? And if you find yourself feeling at all depressed or anxious, stop withdrawing or get back on if needed. Good luck!
