Zoloft and weight loss

Zoloft and weight loss

I was curious. I'm on a low dose of Zoloft. I'm on a physican controlled weight loss program. I've been loosing a lot of weight. Not to worry. I have close contact with several MDs every week because of other issues relating to my weight loss....but the oddest thing has been happening and I'm not sure what to do. I've lost about 15 pounds recently and I've noticed over the past week or so that my depression as gotten alittle worse. I don't understand it. You'd think that with weight loss, the issues would get better, but they're not. Has anyone had anything like this happen? I can't go up on the dose because I have seizure activity. Is this something that warrants me calling my MD? I'm so tired of seeing doctors every week. What do you think?

I would hold out for a little bit - even though you are being treated for your depression, it may still hit you now and then.  I often go through "down" times, the weather - my cycle - so many things can effect it.  I am on Zoloft for anxiety and feel pretty good.  I am on a very low dose 25mg and I may still feel a bit anxious at times but I am not gonna up my dose, it keeps me working on it myself - I just wanted a little help from the meds.

Congrats on the weight loss!!

I know so many people worry about gaining weight on Zoloft - I haven't, in fact I have lost a few pounds.  Take Care, Erin

Hey, you're not alone, as you find this topic on medhelp. I've been on Zoloft 50mg for a few weeks and I'm not as hungry as usual. We're tracking my overall weight with the doctor. Fluids are always good. I also try to have something nearby to nibble on more frequently rather than big meals. That will be good for a steady energy level anyways! Let me know what you find out.

You might want to consider switching drugs actually. I'm on a med that was originally put on the market as an anti-seizure med that works wonders for my depression. It's outside of the SSRI class of meds, but has been proven to be just as effective as that class.  Do you have a psychiatrist? If you don't have one, I would highly recommend you do consult with one. What was your specific diagnosis?  I've actually lost weight on the med I'm currently on, because I'm not longer emotionally eating. I had a heck of a time with Zoloft personally, but then I did with all of the drugs in that class, the only two drugs I didn't  try were Prozac and Paxil.  You are obviously being very vigilant with your diet, which is a tough thing to do, so you are doing wonderfully. Weight loss doesn't mean you'll feel well emotionally though. I lost 100lbs, give or take a couple, and I was miserable at both ends of scale. See a pdoc and look into a med change. I hope this helps.
