Zoloft questions

I just went to the insta-care clinic and got perscribed zoloft 50mg for my depression.  I have been anxious/panicking for 7-8 years now, and that coupled with my agoraphobia is starting to make me depressed.  

My question about zoloft is: I have been taking St. John's Wort for 5-7 months now, once a day, and I found out after taking my first dose of zoloft (which I broke in half to make it 25 mg) that I am not supposed to take it while on St. John's Wort.  

What do I do?  If I suddenly  stop the St John's Wort, will I go through withdrawals from that, or have worsening depression?  I need some advice.

Why did you break it in half?  Usually its prescribed at 50.. as a starting dose.  I did a search online about withdrawals from St Johns Wart, and there doesn't seem to be much information about withdrawals.  Because it is technically a herbal supplement, its not regulated by the FDA.  I don't believe that withdrawals are documented.  This is not to say that there aren't any though.  At one site, I did find someone who complained of withdrawal symptoms.

Since you are attempting a more aggressive attack on your depression, I would say give the zoloft a chance to work.  Its not going to happen over night, and you may feel a bit sad while you are getting to your proper dosage.  To stop one med, and switch to the other, you will usually have an adjustment period.. get worse before you get better so to speak.
