I was put on diadepan and beta blockers whilst my body got used to the side effects of Effexor when I started it again. My body gradually got used to the drug, and I am fine now. Took about 4 weeks to feel any result.
I don't have any of the palpitations now.

Thanks, will see what the doc says, have tried quite a few with differing side effects. Its a shame really this one seems to be having the most serious side effects yet not affecting my weight which is a huge bonus as have put on lots weight over the years with antidepressants.
Dutonin was great but got banned, trazadone gave me palpatations as did escitalopram Citalopram i was on for about 12 years and put on about 3 stones. Prozac was great but i put on about two stones in less than 3 months.
This one would be excellent if it wasn't for the irregular, fast and slow pulse.
I'm running low on options.

You may want to consider switching to Paxil if you're not getting any relief from the racyness. I found it to be the most mellow of all the ssri and other anti-depressants. I take 20mg along with Inderal, and it did the trick for me with similiar symtoms. Good Luck!
Never took Zoloft, but took Paxil, Prozac, Wellrutrin, Effexor, Lexapro, Celexa, Buspar....
Whenever I took a medicaton that seemed to have up-lifting qualities, those that seemed to pump my blood a little harder -- those drugs that caused an increase in heart rate, that caused anxiety, continued to cause anxiety as long as I continued to use that drug. That racy feeling is not a side effect that goes away quickly, according to my experience. If that drug has an upper-type effect, then it will continue to do so as long as you ingest that pill.
Depression is often linked with anxiety maybe only the fact that you take a new medication is enough to give you anxiety symptoms like palpitations and shortness of breath.
Whenever in doubt please call the doctor or pharmacist, pharmacist is the one to call for advice on medications. Here we cannot give you medical advices.

Thanks for your advice but these side effects are listed in the serious section of the side effect list and I really hope they will go away and are not too serious. They are frightening and I've been on the pills nearly four weeks now.
I really want these ones to work !
I will try to persevere until i see the doc again in four weeks but it is scary when my pulse goes v fast or v slow and irregular and I'm worried it won't improve with time.

Please eat good food. Never Fast . also dont stop taking medicines unless the doctor advices you.

Yes 1-2 weeks is the usual time frame for the side-effects you get when starting a new drug. The therapeutic lag is usually 3-4 weeks.

I had similar side effects going on and off zoloft. They lasted about two weeks and then went away. Good luck.
