Your medication history has been an extremely rough and complicated one....you went through a lot of trouble to get on a dose of Xanax that started giving you some relief...I wouldn't mess with that.  You've been dependent on benzos for 20 years, that isn't something you're going to undo easily.

Personally, I think adding the Adderrall was a bad idea to begin with, which I shared with you when your doctor was discussing it... especially b/c you never truly gave the Prozac enough time to work...nor did you explore other options first.  A medication like Adderall can end up adding a lot of side effects that aren't desirable.  I think you need to continue working with your doctor to find a better option.

For you, getting used to any new med is going to be hard because you are oversensitized to ANY sensation and are quick to attribute any symptom you have to a medication side effect.

Good luck.

No, the fact that youre not getting the Adderal effect is directly related to the benzo use. To keep it simple, they cancel each others out. Like I said if you want to take full advantage if the amphetamine you gotta cut down on the the Xanax and use it as a night downer to make you able to calm down and have a good night of sleep. If you take both together it's kinda pointless unless you really want to set aside the high blood pressure and racing heart while trying to balance the GABA neurotransmitter like you have been used to to so for the last 20 years.

If you take the Adderal when you wake up and Xanax when youre going to bed of course the Adderal will work better but you could have withdrawal symptoms of a so what we call a benzos withdrawal. My bet would be to switch to a benzo with a longer half-life like diazepam or klonopin while being on Adderal during the day time.

The Xanax will cancel some of the boost Adderal is giving you since Xanax is a downer and Adderal is a stimulant so they kinda cancel each others. But The Xanax also reduce the number of receptors for dopamine and norepinephrine which is why if you take both at the same time you're not giving a chance to the Adderal to work great. One thing Xanax will help for Adderal is reducing the side-effect of the amphetamine which is high blood presure and fast heart beat and anxiety.

If I were you and most importaly if I would like to get the full advantage of Adderal I would cut on the Xanax or take it only before going to bed to come down from Adderal.

Adderal is an amphetamine and amphetamine are not serotenergic or not that i heard of. Adderal will work with you dopamine and norepinephrine neurotransmitters. This med will give you a lot of energy, euphoria, and reduce your appetite.

It is safe to take all 3 meds together without worrying about serotonin syndrome. If you really don't like the Adderal I would suggest you talk to your doctor about trying an SNRI like Effexor or Cymbalta.
