adverse reaction to lexapro

Has anyone out there had a Psychotic Reaction to Lexapro during first week of treatment? I was given it for acute anxiety, within 24 hrs it crashed my into depression, I have suffered mild attacks of depression in the past, but nothing like this. Out of that I had periods of up to 4 hours when my brain switched off, head exploding, then a Flight and Fright phase, when I felt like smashing the whole house or killing myself, it was a very scary place to be in, it felt as if my whole brain had burned up, except the tiny morsel with all these mad ideas.

This is a possible adverse reaction that might happen when getting on antidepressants. Increased anxiety, increased depression/suicidal thoughts are all adverse effects that can happen. I would suggest you contact your doctor as soon as possible and try something else to see if the symptoms are less prominent.

Please remember that a medication can take up to 4 weeks to take effect or until you feel good.

i had similar reaction the first couple days when i took paxil.  i was very depressed when i took it, basically i was brain dead.  within 24 hours i had a massive panic attack, strangely about 4 hours later i started feeling very hyper and energetic and was in a great mood, i have not been diagnosed with bi-polar, its just drug induced mania. then as the days went on a started to stabilize, but i always have tremors and shakiness from it, so i switched to lexapro, i havent had any bad reaction from it.  ssri's take a while to stabilize in your system, sometimes you might get scary side effects at first as your body is adjusting, especially if you have a anxiety disorder, it just intensifies it.

I took that about five years ago and had a HORRIBLE reaction to it. It made me crave alcohol and carbs like nobody's business, and made me absolutely NUTS! My friend was on it and she had a similar reaction; she felt like she was climbing the walls. Then again, many people swear by it. So it all depends on the individual.

I can honestly say I took it for about a month & a half & definitely caused some maniac reaction. In n e crazy moment I've had with anger sometimes I throw things at walls (ive never felt the need to inflict pain on myself nor n e 1 else) but while on it...i would wake up being foggy & just blah & be so quick to tell people to shut the f up. I even "tried" throwing a decent sized textbook at one of my bros friends (im not very strong, nor do I throw things very well which is why I don't even try & hurt people cuz I know I'm setting myself up for a laugh cuz I'm weak lol) I very soon got off of it & flushed every pill down the toilet.

I just started taking it and I've acted in ways that are almost like an out if body experience, like its not me acting that way but I can't stop myself. My fiance is about to leave me over these episodes. I would rather have anxiety and depression over acting manic and messing up everyone's life.
