advice on meds

Hello i was wondering if somebody could help me, i recently went through a very bad episode of depression which left me off work for a long time, to the point where i didnt leave the house.i eventually gave in and started takin flouxitine (prozac)20mg per day which helped me to be able to cope with going back to work and face day to day life, but i have noticed alot of side effects, like flu like symtoms (symptoms) bad cough, headaches, find my nose runs alot,i feel run down constantly, energyless to finding it really hard getting outta bed,to feeling emotionaless, then very upset, and get angry really easliy, and have the worse nightmares/overdreaming all the time nearly everynight,i just seem to not be getting any better, ive been on prozac for over 2months now,and should be feeling alot better than i do.i found prozac helped me alot in being able to cope better and go back to work, but these side effects which im sure they are from prozac is starting to get me down.is it possible to find a antidepresant that dosent give such bad side effects?and how would i switch from taking prozac to somthing else.? will i feel even more ill than i already do ? im just terrified i will end up slipping back into major depression, which was the worse experience of my life. can anyone else relate to my sideeffects ?and what i should do?ive read about being bipolar could my sideeffects being anything to do with bipolar? please help if anyone can as i am very confused.. many thanks sarah20england x

There are other anti-depressants out there..and everyone reacts differently to different medications. I would see your doctor and consider trying something else. The SSRI class of drugs which Prozac falls under, has many other options, Lexapro being one that's usually pretty well tolerated and is pretty effective. They all have side effects though and some people (as my doctor informed me) cannot tolerate the side effects of any of them. You can also mitigate some side effects with another antidepressant. Wellbutrin is often used to cancel out the sleepiness and groggy effects the SSRIs can sometimes cause. Just don't drink on Wellbutrin, alcohol and Wellbutrin don't mix at all. Good luck to you..

thanks very much for both ur advice, i went back docs today but i couldnt get in to see my doc so i saw another one, and she wasnt very helpfull, i told her exactly how im feeling and she told me she wouldnt change my meds, without consultiing my doc ( she didnt seem like she had much of a clue about anti depresants).my thyroid is fine venora ive already had it checked.i told her that im getting the constant headaches, and lack of concentration and work , which isnt good as my job involves alot of complex stuff, and she just told me to carry on taking my meds, im also on propanolol 40mg along with the 20mg prozac for anexiety and depression,i defo know now woozy not to mix meds and drink as i drank for the first time in months on these meds and i collapsed and ended up in hospital,...i just feel like my doc dosent really have much knowledge about anti depresants or what kind to put me on,which is kind of starting to worry me.it seems i know more about them than they do.the freqant nightmares and overdreaming,is i think a major problem in me feeling tired all day and never refreshed , i told her this but all she could say is, ' yes that is what happens' , not very professional
surely there is an anti depressant that dosent have such bad side effects?
im just a little worryied that i will end up slipping back into major depression which scares me enourmously.:( thanks for your help tho to both of you.i cannot think of what else i can do .?  :(
