alchohol and meds

i was wondering if alchohol effects antidepressants long term. like if i drink a 40 ounce of alchohol tonight would it effect my meds tomorrow even when the alchohol is out of my system? i consume about 12 to 15 beers a week. and i was just wondering if it would effect my meds even after the beer leaves my system.

Alcohol mixed with medication is a tricky issue. If your medication is sedative and you are taking it at night for example, and you come back home really drunk then you should just skip the dose. I don't see any problem in taking a medication in the morning after being intoxicated with alcohol the day before other than liver issues. A lot of medications can have impact on your liver and mixed with alcohol it doesn't help.

The interactions with alcohol are generally an increase interaction which means increased sedation or increased drug concentration in plasma because of metabolizing issues which could lead to increased toxicity.

Be careful with alcohol and medications. Mixing should be done with caution or simply avoided.

These medications should never be mixed with alcohol.  If you're going to skip something, skip the alcohol.  You may have started the drinking as a way to self medicate, and with the meds you no longer need to do this.  Plus, it's hurting your body and I know you don't want to do this.
