My husband had quad heart bypassHeart bypass surgery Heart bypass surgery - series surgery last August. He has never been quite the same person since, he is forgetful, and now is complaining of being depressed, eg vulnerable, not wanting to leave the house. It is not all the time but he is very miserable, needless to say he is on a cocktail of drugs. Do you think they contribute or not. He now has an incisional hernia, and has to have that repaired, and it is all getting to him. What can i do to help?
my father had triple by pass surgery the doctor told us there was a chance that this could happen to him thankful it didn't but he said it would be do to small oxygen intake while in surgery they stop your heart and restart it again doctor told us that when my dad went in for surgery he could come out a different person personalty wise that is why there on life support for a little while i wish all the luck for your husband
When my father went through his first bypass he was exactly the same as your husband. It was quit a great while before he "recooped" his senses, so to speak. It is a tramatic operation. But with time, as I said quite a bit of time, he came around and according to him " better than ever". I'm sure the medication's that your husband is on has ALOT to do with the depression. Those medication's that are saving his life also come with some depression side affects. Catch 22. My father admitted that period in his life was learning to come to terms with his life. Make sense? Fear, anxiety, depression is what go's with this type of surgery. We as a family just had to support, Your husband will have to come to terms with this in his own way. With you wonderful support and love he should little at a time start to come around.
Good Luck
