I drank heavily for more years than I can count. I also continued while taking meds for major depression. I finally put it down for two reasons.

I felt I was approaching a point where it could get out of control but also because I had to know exactly what my major depression was all about. While I was drinking I couldn’t figure out if I drank because I was depressed or depressed because I drank. In addition, the meds I was taking were not helping me and I needed to take alcohol out of the mix so I could make an honest determination.

I learned a couple of things. First I drank heavily because I was depressed and secondly the meds weren’t working. Four years later my treatment resistant depression continues without success in finding a drug or combination of drugs to help.

If you’re interested I can share more of my experience with you. I’m non-judgmental and firmly believe that we all make choices about how we need to live our lives.

how long have you been drinking.

was your post a cry for help

i drank for years because of anxiety.

i went into therapy and a.a.

that was 20 years ago.

it was a real merri-go-round.

i drank because of having an anxiety disorder but bot realizing the drinking was causing only more anxiety.

i had a choice to drink or to take anxiety meds but not both. i choose the anxiety meds.

it was'nt easy. i 'm still in therapy for depression and anxiety.

my meds keep my anxiety under control. my depression comes and goes.

i know mixing these 2 don't work.

please go to aa. get therapy to help find your root of anxiety. it might just be the booze causing it.

you're not alone.

hope this helps

I smoke for the same reason I guess, so I am no one to judge that is for sure. Drinking will rob you of everything you love including your self esteem. Drinking and drugs will kill you. They did my daughter in law. And she was a young gal. I hope you find the help you need to stop.

Hi,

Drinking while taking meds is the problem as drinking negates the effects of the med. So really if you want to drink then stop taking the meds as you are wasting them.

Decide, drink or treatment, not both as that does not work, as you already know. Would you stay with your husband if he did what you are doing?

Seriously, would you? As that's what you'd have to consider if he drank and had anxiety and so on.

Make the choice for your own health and stop the drink and get serious about your treatment please.

You need to stop!  You're living your life out of the bottom of a bottle and it's distorting you and how you see life. Drinking while on anxiety meds will kill you!  You've just been lucky so far.  I had a friend that wouldn't listen to me, went out drinking one night and never woke up the next morning.  My daughter had to divorce her husband when their baby was only 7 months old due to his drinking, it saved his life.  He went to AA, and today is very involved in church, and is one of the best fathers I've ever seen.  He's been sober for 2 years.  He lost his wife, son, home, and many friends.  Although it broke his heart to lose my daughter, he says her leaving and divorcing him, is why he is where he is today.  They've made a wonderful life for my grandson, and he is the happiest, most well adjusted child. Two happy homes instead of one miserable one. Your medication should and can take care of your anxiety, if not, you go back to your doctor and he will either change the dosage or put you on something else.  You're going to lose your husband if you don't get help, and maybe even your life.  Go to AA and start reclaiming your life, don't wait until you've lost everything before doing this.  Your husband is trying to help you, accept his help and work thru this together.  Alcoholics will find every excuse in the world to drink.  I know I sound a little harsh, but I truly want to see you stop the destructive behavior, save your marriage and your life.

Hi, I used to drink to feel numb.  When my husband died, I went off the deep end.  I finally found help, a good pdoc and a therapist.  I have gone thru 7 one month treatments and the last one was 3 months - which seemed to work.  I still go to a pdoc and therapist, take welbutrin, celexa and trazadone.  I still want to drink sometimes when I get stressed to too lonely.  Hope this helps
