apathetic

by calgary67, Jun 03, 2007 12:00AM
I have been on various antidepressants since 1996. Luvox made me sleepy, Zoloft wore off after a few years, Effexor which I am on now, 200+mg. is making me very apathetic.  I couldn't care less about anything.  I am becoming ill because of this. Very obese, not wanting to exercise, and I have a phobia about exercise.  I am so hard on myself because of this mindset. I would like to come off the Effexor but am afraid to.I am diabetic, have arthritis in my knees, and still depressed. I am 67 yrs., retired, and sedentary. Is there an antidepressant that doesn't cause weight gain.

Do you see a therapist to talk over how you feel right now and maybe the effexor isnt the right AD for you.I went through many before I got on the celexa.I have been slowly loosing weight I wal in the evening and eat 6 small meals a day instead of 3.I know I had to force my self in the beginning but you can loose on ADs.Just start by walking even if its just around the yard.
This is a good palce to come to talk so if you want to talk some I will listen.I am 50 bipolar and survivor of thyroid cancer last year.
let me know how you are .

Thanks for your reply.  In fact, I am trying to find a new doctor and tomorrow I have an appointment with a weight management doctor whom I have seen before. Hopefully she will refer me to someone who is accepting patients.  I live in Calgary, Alberta and the heath care problem is critical.  Last week I had an incident happen that could have been a terrible accident and probably a death and I just didn't care!!!! That is what woke me up to the factf that I really didn't give a damn.
Yes, I would like to chat with you Venora. Thanks.  I am 67.
Take care

How did your visit with the new doc go?I hope they put you on a different anti depressant.you will probably do better.Sometimes they just quit working for us.
Have you had your thyroid checked recently? Thyroids can mimic depression and make you feel just miserable.
Let me know

i saw the weight management doc yesterday and she gave me the names of clinics i should get my GP to refer me to.  I will give it a whirl. My GP is the problem as she forgets. I will have to get proactive and hound her I guess.  I am trying to take control of my eating by keeping a journal and having nutritious food in the house. I am diabetic but you would never know it by the way I eat. I have a food addiction.  Sometimes life gets tough, but the tough get going!!!!!!!! Worrying about my health has got me nowhere. more later.
