changing the dose

changing the dose

my son has been taking cipralex 10mg two tablets once a day,i.e; 20 mg a day,for almost 18 months. It helped in many ways, but his mood swings are the same and most of the time he has indifferent attitude and response to family issues that make me worried if this is going to affect his relationship with us or with the people he cares about.
my question is if he can start lowering the dose that he is taking without going back to extreme depression and suicidal.
my next question is if he can replace the cipralex with any antidepressant drug that can work on his depression and at the same time can decrease this indifference attitude that he has developed from taking cipralex, and at the same time may work on his sexual drive.
Thank you very much in advance.

Cipralex is an antidepressant. Do you mean that it is not working for him?

If his moods are up and down like you said than I would talk to his doctor about adding Lithobid to his antidepressant.

If you just take him off his antidepressant and indeed he sufferers from Major depression, then yes he will get worse and probably suicidal again.

Then again maybe that particular antidepressant just isn't working well for him, in which case a med change may be in order.

I hope he is seeing a Psychiatrist and not just a regular MD regarding his mental health meds.
