Namaste,
Citalopram is an antidepressant in a group of drugs called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs). It affects a naturally occuring chemical in the brain called serotonin, which helps to improve certain mood problems, but may become unbalanced and cause depression.
Citalopram is used to treat depression.
Like most SSRI's it may take several weeks before its' full effect is felt, but don't stop taking it because you don't think it's not working.
And like every medication there are side effects which vary from individual to individual. Some of those associated with this medication are a feeling of restlessness, insomnia, drowsiness and weight gain.
Most side effect go away after taking the drug for a period of time for your body to get used to it.
Overall, it's a good medication for treating depression, which I assume you were diagnosed with.
Good Luck!!
Michael
