cognitive thearpy for alternating negitive thoughts ANTS

my girlfriend was just prescribed zoloft for depression and is going to be getting into cognitive theapy
shes 17 but has been dealing with depression since grade school
what can i do to help the sittuation along
is there little bits of cognitve thearpy i can apply or use
and im bi polar and was put on zoloft when i was younger and it slipped me into a mania within a week
im concerned that she may be considering her behaviour, her mental and mood issues are much alike mine
i worried this medication might slip her into a mania
more so knowing her parents mental and mood history.

Buy a book entitled Mental Health Through Will Training by Abraham Low.  He is the father of Cognative therapy and his book is a bible for people who suffer from anxiety and depression

Zoloft shouldn't cause her to get hypomanic, but saying that if she is bipolar, she just may, especially if she has a family history. On the postive side, she get better treatment faster. As much as BP is a cruel disease, it's manageable - better to know sooner rather then later. I wish I'd known.  The best thing you can do for her is be supportive. Don't get all into CBT with her, that's what therapists are for.
