depression vs reality

Where is the line between reality and depression? When everything in your life is going bad and no light at the end of the tunnel to be seen, no words to help, nothing to help, isn't that just reality. Isn't just normal to be depressed, When theres nothing to be happy about or look forward too, isn't it normal to be depressed? Will taking pills for depression keep my home, my car, keep the power & water on,put food in the frig, bring work, heal my body, fix my husbands truck, make my husband make intelligent decisions. Oh, I'll just take a pill for today, plug thru another day and wait til the world eventually crashes in on my head.

E-Talks on “the cure to social phobia, OCD and depression”

Purpose: To help those who have been suffering from social phobia, OCD and depression, gain better understanding about themselves and the situation they’ve been through, as well as the forum to be more informative and diversified.

Speaker: Mr.Hei Xi, the founder of Hei Xi Psychological Counseling Center in Shang Hai, who has graduated from psychological department of Chinese Medical University , as well as suffered from social phobia, OCD and depression himself for more than 10 years .

Highlights:

Mr. Hei Xi makes use of oriental philosophy therapy, such as Buddhism, Taoism, Zen, Morita Therapy. By going through those philosophy, he realized that such self-low-esteem complex can never be removed forcibly. “But when we fully accept it, just let it be, it will disappear magically”. (Counter Therapy)

Based on Mr. Hei Xi’s more than 10 years’ research findings and experiences gained from the treatment process, he came up with his own so-called Easten or Natural Therapy. For instance, the treatment of Social Phobia, which includes 2 principles:

“ Principle 1:
The correction of low self-esteem (inferiority complex), and the build-up of self-confidence, namely “total acceptance of yourself”, In Eastern Philosophy Therapy, it is called “Original Form” or “to do nothing”, it is the root-removing principle.

Principle 2:
Behavioral Therapy, Exposure Therapy, Desensitization Therapy and NLP etc. A large amount of social practice can quickly remove the symptoms. It is symptom-removing principle.”

“The difference between eastern therapy and western therapy is like the difference between Chinese medication and western medication.”

The brain is a funny thing... you can take two people going through very similar things, similar situations, and one can be happy and the other miserable. Point is, yes, life can be terrible at times, and bad things affects us, but different people react differently to them. Not to mention the fact that many times, depression is something that just happens, even if all is going well in your life; one day you just aren't the same anymore, but nothing objective has changed; your brain simply processes things differently and makes you feel different. Pills can be awesome, they can alleviate the pain, like the previous commenter said; and no, they won't fix your problems, but they can give you more strength to face them. There's always going to be something wrong in our life, but external things don't make us clinically depressed... if it were that way, most of the world population would be depressed.

i have to totally agree with what you said! i was just perscribed celexa for depression, and other issues..your right, the pill isn't going to make my boyfriend go away or stop being mean to me and degrading and just a plain ol' a$$! but i will tell you, the meds are helping me control MY anger in front of my kids, he would get me soo mad that i would scream and cry in front of my children, who are only 2 and 1 years old. it wasn't fair to them..yes if i leave that will help, which i have to do eventually..but the time isn't right. i need to get back to being well, the way i was before being verbally abused and treated like ****....it's turned me into a very bitter and angry woman...the meds and talking with a therapist really help me. it doesn't make the problems dissapear..but they will help you get through enough to see that there is a light at the end of the tunnel. there is always a light...im really not religous at all, BUT i truely believe that we are not delt anything that we can't handle! it will make us stronger! atleast that what i keep telling myself! for my children and my sanity!
i hope things get better for you! meds don't have to me a permanant thing...go talk with someone...there is help out there for you..take care

Depression and reality are completely unrelated concepts. While its true that most people get the blues, most people do not have our type of thinking.  The reality is that pills do not fix depression they merely alleviate the malaise and pain so that we can function to pay the bills, put food in the fridge etc. Another reality is that we have to be proactive in treating our depression.  Its a horrible illness and it requires more than the happy blue pill to arrest it.  I know how you feel.  Everything seems so pointless and doesn't make any sense.  Why bother with any of it? I'm still trying to figure it out myself.  Happiness comes in small clips, moments.  Its not a permanent state and sadness and hopelessness don't have to be either. Fighting depression takes strength and perseverance, traits that are hard to come by when depression has taken over.  Let me ask you this?  If you had cancer or diabetes, would you settle for a pill once a day to cure it?  Despite what might be popular opinion, depression is more lethal than those diseases.  Don't deprive yourself of feeling good.  Your depression wants you sick, its up to you whether or not you want to stay sick.  Let me know your thoughts.
