depression?

do i talk to my family doctor about depression. and what if i dont feel comfortable talking to him who else could i go to ?

Never waste of time. That is what they are there for. Your family doctor may not be the 'specialist' for dealing with depression, but they can provide a temporary remedy and direct you in the right direction.

I feel for you i was in your shoes not long ago not knowing where to turn or who to turn to!  tschock is totally right talk to you dr first and ask for a referral.  Answer his questions honestly it is for your  Benifit  you you are having those feelings they can give you immediate help.  Good luck my thoughts are with you

Just tell him that you are depressed and that you would like a referral to see a psychiatrist or psychologist.
You don't need to tell him much more than that. He will ask you if you are suicidal or if you've thought about suicide however, so be prepared to answer that question truthfully.
You do not need to go into detail about what is causing it though.
You could also try contacting your local mental health department as well. They may be of better help to you if you are not comfortable talking to your doctor.
