I'm sorry that you feel humans are the cause for depression.  Depression can be caused by many things, including a chemical imbalance.  But don't allow "people" to make you feel you can't trust them.  We are in control of our feelings, nobody can anger or sadden us, it is us "allowing" ourselves to feel this way.  Only we can determine what kind of day this will be.  I have suffered with severe depression, but find that getting out and mingling, or just merely striking up a conversation while in line at a store is fun.  I sense you have been deeply hurt or disappointed in your life, and this is where your not wanting to get close to people comes from.  I may be wrong, since I don't even know you.  But I do hope you get to a point where you can trust others.

hi lisa,
ive had my first signs of depression when i was 9 yrs old... battled with it threw my teen years, countless numbers of suicide attempts, 4-5 highschool dropouts, self medicated with alchohal, drugs, and of course was put on paxil, then effexor and god only knows what else... the way i see it, depression never leaves, you dont just wake up one morning and feel 110% forever. i  felt that being on the anti-depressants, made me feel crazy than i already was... here was my non-medicated success remedy...
i got off the pills, got help getting off the drugs and alchohal...
i simply just set goals for myself each day, starting with somethign small, like ``today i will go for a long walk`. finally i set myself up with bigger goals, made sure EVERY SINGLE DAY was filled with something to keep me occupied, keep my mind busy, stay in contact with someone at all times. before i knew it... i slowly started to feel better. i made myself so busy, that i didnt even have to remember i was depressed! and whenever i feel it coming on,... i go for that long walk ;) it seems simple doesnt it. i told my bestfriend this who was on meds for 15years... guess whos not on meds anymore. it worked for us, try it out. stay busy, take up a hobby. hope this helps

I think it's also important to know that major depression does not always need a trigger or some past traumatic event to manifest itself.

I have never suffererd a traumatic experience in my life, have no past or current family members that have depression, no one in my family is addicted to drugs or alcohol, and I had a great childhood. Regardless, at 23 when I was on top of the world, I was struck with very severe depression and anxiety for no reason at all.

At least not for any reason that the psychiatrists could find. For whatever reason i just happen to have a malfuction in my brain that severly effects mood regulation. It does not allow me to feel joy or contentment. It will only allow darkness and anxiety.

This theory that major depression must be caused by some logical past reason is a way out dated theory. It doesn't hold water. Not everyone that has depression has to have a direct reason to suffer from it.

That is why it is called a disease.

Please Google depression and depression symptoms so you can read the full facts.

Can you get rid of it without meds? Essentially all cured depressions are cured by other than meds. Meds do not cure depression, they relieve the symptoms when we feel bad enough to need meds. Relieving those symptoms supposedly allos us to think more clearly, identify the problems causing depression and fix those problems which in turn fixes the depression.

That's the theory. Some of us have long term treatment resistant depression and even though we know what started it etc just cannot change it and how we think and react to life. For such people, including myself, a negative event is devastating and causes relapses from being OK.

In my own case I came to the view some time back that human beings are the cause of depression and so I avoid them as much as possible. I trust few and mix rarely. I'm not afraid of people, I don't like or trust them as a whole although I know there are many wonderful people around.

They are just well concealed and I don't have the inclination to risk searching any more. I settle for my family and their friends, having cut off my birth family some time back.

Wish I could tell you how to get rid of it. I have had it for 18 years and counting now and never once have I come close to eliminating it.

I have had periods where it was well controlled with a combination of meds, but even then I know it's still there just waiting to escape again.

There are some people that claim to have completly beaten depression and anxiety dissorder, but I question the actual severity of their condition to begin with.

Maybe some day there will be a cure, I'm just not sure I will see it in my lifetime.

My best hope is that science would at least come out with a drug that really worked and continued to work for the long term. Even that would be a huge step foward.

Depression is when you feel sad, hopeless, anxious, moody, no ambition, crying for no apparent reason, etc.  It occurs for many reason,s a chemical inbalance, stress, things happening in your life, or from something that may have happened in your past.  It is possible with the help of a psychiatrist or therapist to get over the depression, but can take a long time, depending on the cause.  Medication allows you to function normally while going thru this and to just make dealing with it all easier.  If it is due to a chemical inbalance then medication is the only thing that will help you.
