Everyone struggles with frustration and feeling hopeless while trying to manage these kinds of conditions.
As hard as it is sometimes, you must be proactive and help yourself. For one, you shouldn't be missing your appointments. That just adds insult to injury, both financially, and also with your treatment. The doc needs to see you every so often to make sure the regimen is working, which obviously, there are some issues with yours. You need to tell him that your symptoms aren't being well managed. You also are running the risk of getting dropped by the doctor. You'd be surprised, some doctors have very ridgid policies about missed appts, especially if they are busy and other patients are waiting for a spot. There would be NOTHING worse than being dismissed by the doctor, especially being on a benzo...that would be a nightmare. Just please be very careful and ensure that you are being compliant with your scheduled appts.
Also, as hard as it is, you have to do work yourself. I personally found that my panic and depression responds BEST when I take the wheel and work hard to help myself. There are SO many books out there, different CD programs, etc. Are you in therapy? If not, you should be...not only is therapy beneficial for the obvious reasons (emotional support), but also because a therapist can teach you ways to cope, and guide you in doing things on your own to help yourself.
I know it's easy to feel like you've just had it, but really, it's SO important to be able to recognize what role YOU are playing in your stalled progress. Often, those of us with anxiety and depression are our own worst enemies. I know many times I've sabotaged my own recovery by not doing much to help myself. It's VERY hard to push yourself and force yourself to do certain things, but it's vital for your treatment. I just cannot stress that enough...just taking meds is never enough.
Best to you...let us know how the appt went.
