Some people report getting up to 8 years of relief from the same antidepressant, but I question the actual severity of their condition to begin with.
When you suffer severe cronic depression then 3 years is about the max on any antidepressant before it stops working and a change or augmentation is needed.
I am now down to getting about 10 months relief even on powerful Tri-cyclic antidepressants. It takes many years to get to my level if medication resistance, but don't let any doctor tell you it can't happen. I know hundreds that this has happened to.
Thus far I have built up complete resistance to over 12 different antidepressants in 18 years. They work for a while then stop working and the depression returns as it always does.

Maybe one day they will invent an antidepressant that last longer, but I'm not holding my breath.
