effexor / velafaxine effectiveness and alcohol

i just was wondering how others have experienced alcohol whilst they've been on Venlaxine as i'm continuing with this medication as feel that it possibly was beginning to work, but i've noticed that if i have a drink and i mean seriously just a few cans, my mood dips significantly and appears to take a few days to get back to where i was at before, and then it's the weekend. I'm aware of alcohol being a depressant and medication losing its effectiveness owing to how it's metabolized i think through one's liver, but for me it appears that venlaxine is more sensitive to alcohol use than other SSRI meds which i've used. Has this been others experiences as i'd like to have a drink as feel that it would be quite boring if i did'nt, but feel that i may have to make such a difficult decision perhaps. Any comments appreciated. thanks

Well Effexor is a bit different from SSRIs in that it is an SNRI meaning it blocks the reuptake of norepinephrine as well as serotonin. I don't know how exactly this affects the interaction with alcohol, but if you feel that alcohol is different on effexor than other antidepressants then it well may be different because effexor is fundamentally different.

However my dad takes effexor and he drinks probably once or twice a week and is fine.
