effexor for depression

I have been suffering from chronic pain. My doctor has prescribed Effexor for the depression that goes along with the chronic pain. I've read a little about Effexor and am not sure this is right for me. The dose now is 25mg once a day with food and increasing to 2 times a day as "tolerable". Any one here have experience with this stuff?

Hi Yo,

I'm someone who has relied on Effexor regularly over the last decade. It is an extremely effective anti depressant and anti anxiety drug at the same time. It is one of the most reliable drugs in the pdocs book, been around quite a while and used for many of us.

I've never had side effects from this drug. Coming off the first time I had a bad reaction but I was coming off 550mgs at that time. Currently I take 300mgs per day.

The dose you are taking is very low and unlikely to have much positive effect until you get to 150mgs at least.

What you've mostly read about Effexor is the problems people have coming off it. You can let that worry you if you want but my view is let it do what's it's supposed to do first and worry about coming off when that time comes. I've come off twice, the second time there was nothing at all.

Too many people focus on the problem of coming off and give no thought to what benefits they may have gained while on the drug. I prefer to always focus on wheteher it makes me fel better or not. If it does then I don't worry about the future. Any day on good ground is a good day for me.

Don't let the negative stories about coming off scare you as many do come off with little problem.

We're all different and we're going to respond to the same med differently. I took Effexor and it did help my anxiety alot. But the side effects got to be too much and I had to quit taking it.
There are alot of antidepressants to choose from. I can only give you my opinion on this one. It caused alot of problems for me but might be the right med for you. Take care. Remar
